International Volunteer Day

Category
People-to-people

On December 5, International Volunteer Day is celebrated around the world to recognise the contributions to development by volunteers. Through the Australian Volunteers for International Development program, Australian volunteers are recognised for their contribution to development and building positive people-to-people links between individuals, organisations and communities in developing countries and in Australia.

Events will be held in locations around the world as part of the celebrations for International Volunteer Day.

In 2015-16 up to 1400 volunteers will be supported to undertake volunteer assignments in 24 developing countries, mainly in the Indo-Pacific region. The majority of volunteers are on assignment in organisations spanning international and local non-government organisations, government bodies, United Nations agencies, educational institutions and the private sector.
