Minister for Foreign Affairs, The Hon Julie Bishop MP, has announced the appointment of Ms Alison Chartres as Australia's next High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya, with non-resident accreditation to Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania and Uganda.
Ms Chartres will also be Australia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT). She will be accredited to the East African Community and the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region.
Australia enjoys warm relations with East African countries through our shared membership of the Commonwealth, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and the Indian Ocean Rim Association.
