Foreign Minister meets Sri Lankan Australia Awards recipients in Colombo

Australia's Foreign Minister Julie Bishop recently met with 15 Sri Lankan Australia Awards Scholarship recipients at a reception in Colombo where she congratulated them on their contributions to the development of Sri Lanka since returning from Australia.

Visit by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is visiting Australia as a guest of the Australian Government from 27 November to 2 December, and is being hosted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop.
In Australia she will meet Australian Government parliamentarians at community events in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne and attend key events for World AIDS Day in Melbourne on 30 November and 1 December.

Australians urged to travel smarter

The Department has launched a new Smartraveller advertising campaign to encourage Australians to make informed travel choices and to travel smarter. The new TV ad features Natalie Hensby, a young Australian who was seriously injured in a high speed boat crash on her way to a Full Moon Party in Thailand.

Typhoon Haiyan: additional assistance

Australian assistance for Typhoon Haiyan

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has announced $10 million of Australian emergency assistance to the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan.
Reports indicate Typhoon Haiyan has affected an estimated 9.5 million people across nine regions, and forced more than 600,000 people to flee their homes. It will be some time before the final death toll is known.
