Mr Hasyim Muzadi, the Chairman of Indonesia's largest Islamic organisation,
Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), is leading a delegation to Australia from 9-16 February.
The delegation includes Cardinal Rijadi Julius Darmaatmadja, the head of
the Bishop's Conference of Indonesia, and Professor Andreas Anangguru Yewangoe,
Executive Member, Indonesian Communion of Churches. The visit is being
funded by the Australia-Indonesia Institute's Muslim exchange and inter-faith
schemes and the Department's Special Visits Program.
Mr Muzadi will meet with representatives of Australia's Indonesian and Islamic
communities and business, educational and political leaders and institutions.
The Muslim exchange program, an Australia-Indonesia Institute initiative
organised jointly by Melbourne University and the Australian National University,
aims to further links between the Muslim communities in Australia and Indonesia
and promote greater understanding of contemporary Australia in Indonesia.
