Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance, Bob McMullan, will today launch an exhibition, Blueprint for a Better World: the Millennium Development Goals and You, in Adelaide.

"This travelling exhibition highlights the tangible options for how individuals and communities can take action in reducing the number of the world's most vulnerable and poor," said Mr McMullan.

The exhibition also highlights the important collaborative work that the Australian Government and NGOs play in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

"Taking into account the current natural disasters and resulting devastation in our region, this exhibition emphasises the need to improve conditions for those that live in extreme poverty," said Mr McMullan.

The Australian community are encouraged to visit the exhibition and learn about the Millennium Development Goals and how they can take action and reflect on how lucky Australia is in this time of economic instability.

"The Australian Government does not believe it's acceptable that at least 640 million people in Asia and the Pacific live on less than $1 a day and nearly two billion on $2 a day. It's not in anyone's interest for this level of poverty to continue and this exhibition will raise awareness of the need to immediately reduce poverty globally," said Mr McMullan.

AusAID, the Australian Government Agency for International Development and Caritas Australia have partnered to tour the Blueprint for a Better World: the Millennium Development Goals and You exhibition to 35 regions Australia-wide for 18 months.
