MEDIA RELEASE

I am pleased to announce that Australia has offered to provide $300 000 to
help Malaysia carry out an air quality study.

The study would be undertaken by the CSIRO in conjunction with the Malaysian
Department of the Environment.

The offer of assistance is in response to a request from the Government of
Malaysia to conduct the study in the Kuala Lumpur region as a result of the
recent bushfire haze problems.

It's expected that part of Australia's contribution would go towards the
purchase of air monitoring equipment needed for the study.
