Leading aid agencies have joined forces with educators and Federal and State Governments to deliver an online Tsunami Education Kit for Australian primary and secondary school teachers.
The kit has been produced by World Vision, the Australian Red Cross and the Australian Government's overseas aid agency (AusAID) in collaboration with education.au and the Australian Council for Educational Research. It is available online today.
'The Tsunami Education Kit is a great resource for teachers and is yet another example of the Australian partnerships that are helping deal with the impact of the tsunami,' Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alexander Downer said.
'Many thousands of children died as a result of the tsunami. It is understandable that children in Australia will want to learn more about the tsunami when school resumes.
'The kit will help teachers deal with the impact of the tsunami on children and will give them comprehensive information about the disaster and Australia's timely and generous response to help affected communities,' Mr Downer said.
The Tsunami Education Kit will include details of the response by the Australian Government and various aid agencies to the disaster. The kit will also include background on key issues relating to poverty, children, aid, trade and debt.
The information kit is now available on the following websites: www.worldvision.com.au and www.ausaid.gov.au/globaled
