Media release from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
D22
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has reviewed its Travel
Advice for Zaire issued on 18 August 1994 and advises that due to the
recent advice of the outbreak of haemorrhagic fever in Bandundu Province
and the continuing uncertain security concerns within the country,
Australians should consider deferring all travel to that country for the
time being. Representatives of the World Health Organisation are
currently investigating the extent of this outbreak and the Department
of Health is monitoring the situation.
As there is no Australian representation in Zaire, Australians
intending to visit Zaire may contact the Australian High Commission, 4th
Floor, Karigamombe Centre, 53 Samora-Machel Avenue, Harare, (Telephone
263-4 794591) or the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra
(Telephone 06 261 3305) for further information.
