The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has reviewed its Travel Advice for the Philippines issued on 19 September 1994 and advises that Australian travellers should be aware that there is a continuing risk of criminal and politically motivated violence in some areas within the Archipelago.

In particular, Australians should exercise due care in visiting the Sulu Archipelago and the more remote parts of Mindanao and Luzon. Travel at night in the countryside should generally be avoided.

Australians visiting the Philippines and who require more specific information are advised to contact the Australian Embassy, 104 Paseo De Roxas, Makati, Metro Manila, telephone (63) 2 8177911.
