Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Media Release
D36
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has reviewed its Travel Advice for Croatia issued on 4 May 1995, and reiterates that in view of the renewed tensions, Australians should continue to defer all non-essential travel to that country.
Australians already in Croatia, and those who find it necessary to travel there, are advised to familiarise themselves with local security conditions to avoid areas of likely confrontation, to monitor news reports, and to exercise caution at all times. Australians who intend to travel to Croatia are advised to contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (06-2613305) or one of the Australian missions listed below for advice on current developments prior to travel.
Australians are advised that a situation of heightened tension exists in many areas of Croatia. While the course of any potential conflict is unpredictable, Zagreb, Karlovac and towns on the Croatian coastline south of Senj are likely to be particularly vulnerable in the event of any outbreak of fighting in Croatia.
Australians are urged to register their plans for residence, arrival in and departure from Croatia with either:
The Australian Embassy, Mattiellistrasse 2-4, Vienna (telephone 43 1 512 8580)
The Australian Consulate, Mezzanine Floor, Hotel Esplanade, Mihanoviceva 1 Zagreb (telephone 385 41 4577 433)
