The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has revised its Travel Advice for Burundi issued on 14 April 1994 and advises that owing to civil unrest in and around the capital, Bujumbura, and northern provinces bordering Rwanda and Zaire, and to the unpredictability of the security situation in the country in general, Australians should avoid all travel to Burundi until further notice.

Australians who nevertheless travel to Burundi are urged to register their presence with the Australian High Commission, Riverside Drive, Nairobi, Kenya (telephone 254 2 445034/39).
