Consular Travel Advice: Algeria

Media Release

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has reviewed its Travel Advice for Algeria and strongly recommends that Australians avoid travel to Algeria until further notice. In particular the Department draws attention to the continuing security concerns in Algeria, the extremely high level of random violence and the fact that foreigners have been made a high priority target by extremist groups.

As there is no Australian Embassy in Algeria, Australians who nevertheless travel to Algeria should contact the Australian Embassy in Paris beforehand at 4 Rue Jean Rey, 75724, Cedax, France (telephone: 40 59 33 00) or the Department in Canberra on (06) 261 3305 for advice on recent developments.
