Australia's trade performance is highlighted and analysed
in the Summer 2007 issue of Trade topics: A Quarterly
Review of Australia's International Trade, released today
by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Key points are:
- The value of exports of goods and services, in seasonally adjusted
terms, were $54.8 billion in the September quarter 2007, a
0.5 per cent increase on the previous quarter. - In volume terms, exports of goods and services rose 2.3 per cent
for the quarter. - Imports of goods and services rose 1.3 per cent to
$59.2 billion in the September quarter 2007. - Australia's terms of trade fell 0.8 per cent in the
quarter. - Net exports detracted 0.1 per cent from GDP growth.
The Summer 2007 issue of Trade Topics features a number
of trade-related articles. The issue leads with an article on
bilateral trade between Australia and Thailand. It notes
trade not only increased following the entry-into-force of the
Thailand-Australia Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA), it deepened.
There is an article on Australia's trade with the Republic of
Korea noting the high level of complementarity between the
economies and the growing importance of the Republic of Korea as a
trading partner. There is an article on the World Wine Trade
Group and the important role it undertakes in facilitating and
liberalising trade in wine. The final article outlines the
collection and use of Australia's trade in services
statistics.
The publication brings together a range of statistical
information produced by Australian government agencies and
international organisations, together with analysis of the latest
trade developments, designed to keep Australians informed of market
conditions and trends. Trade Topics includes
quarterly and annual data on Australia's trade in goods and
services by commodity, market, level of processing, and State and
Territory as well as selected macroeconomic, commodity price and
investment information.
Trade Topics is one of a series of trade publications
