The Australian Government is supporting the United Nations Lebanon Crisis Flash Appeal to provide food, shelter and protection for civilians caught in the current conflict.
Australia's international aid agency, AusAID, will contribute $2 million to the World Food Programme to meet the immediate needs of up to 310,000 people.
A further $500,000 will be provided to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which is managing activities on the ground.
And $500,000 will be provided to the World Health Organization for critical medical aid.
This latest contribution builds on Australia's earlier assistance, bringing the support for relief efforts for those affected by the conflict to $5.5 million.
The United Nations Flash Appeal aims to raise US$150 million to assist 800,000 affected people over the next three months.
Australia's response supports the latest diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the immediate crisis.
We will continue to closely monitor developments in the Middle East.
