Harvest of Hope

Taina started planting. First for survival, then for the village. Soon, other women followed, creating community farms. When she heard that local hospitals lacked food, she led the effort to deliver fresh crops—40 tonnes of vegetables, grown by women.

As she watched the hospital workers receive their first shipment, she realized something: she hadn’t just planted food. She had planted hope. Thanks to ANCP’s support and Australian partner ActionAid, Women Wetem Weta has helped women take control of food security in times of crisis—a solution that can be replicated across the Pacific to protect communities.

Through WITTT, Ni-Vanuatu women built a solution rooted in community knowledge, using radio, word-of-mouth networks, and mobile messaging to ensure warnings reached even the most remote villages. As a result, over 40% of Vanuatu’s population now receives early alerts, allowing them to act before disasters hit.
