Who we are
The ANCP is a global development program underpinned by DFAT's long-standing partnership with Australian Non-Government Organisations (NGOs). Established in 1974, the ANCP provides funding to accredited Australian NGOs to support locally-led and sustainable development aligned with Australia's International Development Policy. ANCP NGOs contribute their own funds – raised from the Australian community – to their projects, which are delivered in the Australian financial year.
NGOs projects cover a broad range of priority areas, including community resilience to climate change, gender equality awareness, maternal health for women in remote locations, citizen engagement in community development, youth empowerment and financial management and entrepreneurship.
What we do
The ANCP provides flexible, annual grants to NGOs to deliver around 400 projects in approximately 50 countries. These cover activities in education, health, livelihoods, economic development and microfinance, rural development, agriculture, food security and civil society strengthening. Cross-cutting issues such as child protection, gender equality, disability, inclusion, environment, climate change and disaster resilience are also addressed by ANCP-funded projects.
Under the ANCP, DFAT sets program policy and standards, manages risks, coordinates monitoring and evaluation, and supports learning across the partnership. NGOs are responsible for the design, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of activities as well as submission of reports and acquittals to account for funds provided by DFAT.
How ANCP works
Accreditation
Australian NGOs funded under the ANCP must pass a rigorous accreditation process that assesses their organisational structure, philosophies, policies and practices. Accreditation is renewed every five years, with spot checks and a rolling program of audits covering the intervening period.
Funding
Base accredited NGOs receive a fixed annual grant amount ($277,000). NGOs with full accreditation receive a higher annual grant amount ($427,000) plus a proportion of the funding pool based on their annual eligible expenditure.
Principles of engagement
The ANCP principles of engagement aim to maintain the long-standing relationship, policy dialogue and shared learning between DFAT and NGOs. The ANCP Program Logic outlines these principles, as well as ANCP's goals, objectives and program outcomes. The delivery of effective development outcomes with a focus on gender equality, disability equity and social inclusion, is one of the three intermediate outcome pathways of the ANCP Program Logic, placing the promotion of inclusive development at the ANCP's core.
Monitoring and Evaluation
The ANCP Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework (MELF) provides the evidence base to demonstrate the effectiveness of the ANCP in achieving results in poverty reduction.
How to Apply for ANCP Funding
Australian NGOs must gain DFAT accreditation to receive funding under the ANCP. To gain accreditation, NGOs must demonstrate capacity and performance against a range of indicators and may seek accreditation at either Base or Full level.
