Description

This is a World Bank design document that describes the context and rationale behind the Rural Energy Distribution Project. The objective of the project is to improve the reliability and quality of medium voltage services to targeted retail electricity distribution systems. The project will achieve this through investment in rehabilitating and increasing the capacity of existing distribution lines and substations. It will enable distribution systems to meet growing demand more efficiently, provide better quality and quantity of electric power for productive uses, and reduce power system losses. Technical assistance will complement the physical investment by supporting the development of the Power Companies to become modern power distribution utilities.
