Description
This report describes the results of AusAID funding towards achievement of the aims of the Cartagena Action Plan 2010-2014 in Uganda and Burundi under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention. The Cartagena Action Plan commits States Parties to undertake actions over five years to strengthen implementation of, and promote universal adherence to, the Mine Ban Convention.
AusAID funding was used to convene national workshops in both countries to:
- raise awareness of the Cartagena Action Plan and obligations as a State Party to the Anti-Personnel Mine Convention in relation to landmine victim assistance
- raise awareness of obligations under the Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- review strategies for implementation and sustainability of victim assistance-related programs
- facilitate progress in the development and/or revision of national victim assistance plans or objectives.
The report was prepared by the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention's Implementation Support Unit. It covers victim assistance and disability support matters in both countries, and provides a breakdown of use of AusAID funds.
