Vanuatu Women's Centre: Design Document 2007–2012

Summary of publication

This document describes the goal, purpose, activities, planned outputs and management of Australia's contributions to the on-going program of the Vanuatu Women's Centre.

The Vanuatu Women's Centre is an independent civil society organisation based in Port Vila, established in 1993. It provides counselling, community awareness and legal advocacy through the Sanma Counselling Centre on Santo (New Zealand funded), the Tafea Counselling Centre on Tanna, and a network of island-based Committees Against Violence Against Women. Australia supports the program goal to eliminate violence against women and children throughout Vanuatu. The expected outcome is increased community acceptance that violence against women and children is a violation of human rights. This will be achieved through continued: counselling, legal assistance and support services throughout Vanuatu; community education and awareness; legal advocacy, lobbying and human rights training; and improved management.
