Australia Timor-Leste Program of Assistance in Secondary Services Phase II (ATLASS II): Six Month Progress Report January-June 2015

Summary of publication

This report provides a progress update of work delivered by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) between January and June 2015. The focus of the Australian Government funded Australia Timor-Leste Program of Assistance in Secondary Services – Phase II (ATLASS II) was the continuing delivery of the Family Medicine Program (FMP). The FMP is a post graduate medical training program that prepares junior Timorese doctors trained through the Cuban medical school system to work independently in Community Health Centres across the 13 districts in Timor-Leste. RACS, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other key national and international partners, lead the delivery of the FMP. As well as training junior doctors in community family medicine, ATLASS II is also working with the national hospital, Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares, to develop, support and embed hospital systems strengthening approaches which includes significant changes to clinical governance and supervision as well as overall strengthening of post graduate medical education and training.
