Description
This Program Design Document outlines the design of the Community Forestry Program, administered by UNDP and implemented by the Sri Lankan Forestry Department.
The goal of the program is to improve the management of natural resources to support livelihoods and contribute to poverty reduction in dry and intermediate zones.
There are two broad component-level objectives:
- Field Activities-to reduce deforestation and forest degradation by involving communities in forest management
- Institutional Support-to build the capacity of the Forestry Department so community forestry approaches can be implemented nationally.
The design is based on the Strategy for Community Forestry Management in Sri Lanka, prepared by the Forestry Department in 2008.
