In 2016-17, Australia's total official development assistance budget to Sri Lanka was $29 million.
The performance of the Australian aid program in Sri Lanka improved in several important areas in 2016-17. While the results from Australia's investment in school facilities and local infrastructure remained strong, the program also began to see good outcomes from new initiatives that create private sector employment opportunities for poor communities. Over the next twelve months, another two key investments – Women in Work and Governance for Growth – will become fully operational, with a commensurate impact on results, while the long-running North East Local Services Improvement Project and the Transforming Schools Education Project will both finish. The aid investment portfolio is now fully aligned to the Aid Investment Plan 2015-19.
