Solomon Islands Health Sector Support Program (HSSP): Implementation Plan

Summary of publication

The aim of this document is to provide a brief historical sketch of health issues in Solomon Islands, identify emerging trends, and describe the Ministry of Health and Medical Services's proposed responses to those issues–focusing specifically on the transition period from the end of the current Australian-funded project Health Institutional Strengthening Project (HISP) in early August 2007 to end-December 2008.

This document draws heavily on preparation work undertaken during 2005 – 2007 by joint donor missions, (jointly led by Australia and the World Bank). Aide Memoires prepared by those missions for the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Medical Services (MHMS) have become the foundation of MHMS thinking and MHMS has used such documents extensively in the preparation of this Program Implementation Plan. Additionally the work of consultants employed under the Sector Wide Approach Support Team and HISP and their advice to MOH is reflected in this document.
