Summary
Identifies major factors limiting the development of qualitative social science research; discusses approaches already tried; considers new directions of support.
Description
This report discusses how and why high-quality qualitative social science research has not developed outside a few limited contexts in Indonesia, and what might be done to develop and implement a medium to long-term strategy to systemically develop research capacity. Two options are put forward: a new organisation capable of carrying out high-quality quantitative research, or creation of a Secretariat to facilitate high-quality research and to develop research capacity in existing organisations.
