On 10 September 2015, Australian and Papua New Guinean Prime Ministers signed a declaration on the preservation of the Kokoda Track Region. It is an enduring partnership between Australia and PNG to protect the Kokoda Track, Brown River Catchment and Owen Stanley Ranges while improving the lives of the people living along the Track.
Australia commits around AUD5 million annually under the Kokoda Initiative to protect and support sustainable development along the Kokoda Track and in the surrounding region.
