Description
Australia's mine action strategy for 2010–14 pledges $100 million to work towards reducing the threat and socioeconomic impact of landmines, cluster munitions and other explosive remnants of war. This is to be achieved through:
• improved quality of life for victims of landmines, cluster munitions and other explosive remnants of war
• reduced number of deaths and injuries from landmines, cluster munitions and other explosive remnants of war
• enhanced capacity of countries to manage their mine action programs
• effective leadership and advocacy by Australia on mine action.
Mine action assistance will focus on the most heavily affected countries in the Asia–Pacific region and will be delivered primarily through Australia's bilateral country programs. This strategy document describes both international progress and Australia's contribution, and explains what we will do under the strategy and how we will do it.
