Summary of publication
This joint AusAID-GIZ project progress review undertaken in April 2010 assessed progress of the pilot project and provided evidence as well as lessons learned to inform the design of the new Climate Change and Coastal Ecosystems Program (CCCEP). The review assessed the project as performing well against all key performance criteria.
Key achievements include:
- the local government's adoption and funding of new approaches to respond to climate change introduced by the project;
- a book of resource materials on climate change, biodiversity and waste management for the use by schools in the Mekong Delta;
- enhanced plant and wildlife;
- improved forest fire management practices and no further deforestation of the coastal forests.
The review also discusses recommendations for an expanded program, including on program indicators, institutional arrangements and a programmatic approach.
