Increasing the access and quality of education in Indonesia

Summary

Australia is supporting the Indonesian Government's 'Education For All' 2015 target of nine years of basic education for all children.

Description

While an estimated 94 per cent of Indonesia's children are now enrolled for six years of primary school, only 67 per cent complete the full nine years of education. One third of Indonesia's 13-15 year olds do not attend secondary school (years 7-9) because schools are too expensive, too far away, or the quality of teaching is poor.

Insufficient teaching and learning materials and a shortage of highly qualified teachers has hindered Indonesia's progress towards achieving quality basic education for all.

Australia is supporting the Indonesian Government's 'Education For All' 2015 target of nine years of basic education for all children, regardless of gender, location or family income.
