Summary

This document reports on progress of the AusAID -CSIRO 'cool village power' project under the Energy Security and Climate Change initiative. (2012, 12pp)

Description

The 'Cool Village Power' project combines CSIRO's sorption refrigeration expertise with TERI's biomass utilisation experience to develop and demonstrate an integrated village electrification and food storage facility. As a result of this project, a rural village in India will be equipped and trained to use a facility which converts woody biomass into:

  2. Cool storage for horticultural produce.

This progress report provides an introduction, completed milestones, description of activities–procurement of equipment, village energy baseline, scoping study, demand assessment of waste heat, formation of village committee, civil work and setting up an electricity distribution grid in the village–and activities in progress.
