Summary

This document is a response to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health and Ageing report Regional health issues jointly affecting Australia and the South Pacific.

Description

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health and Ageing tabled on 18 March 2010 a report entitled Regional health issues jointly affecting Australia and the South Pacific.

The Committee's report contains 15 recommendations focussing on strengthening links with people and counterpart organisations in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands; continuing support for combatting communicable diseases and improving nutrition; supporting infrastructure related issues; and improving current health program activities.

AusAID has coordinated a whole-of-government response to the Committee's report in consultation with the Department of Health and Ageing, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Queensland Health. The relevant responses were provided to, and approved by, the Minister for Health and Ageing and the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The proposed whole-of-government response to the Committee's findings agrees to twelve recommendations, agrees in-principle to one recommendation and notes one of the Committee's recommendations. One recommendation was responded to separately by the Presiding Officers.

The response was tabled in the House of Representatives on 27 June 2013.
