General Angus Campbell AO
General (Rtd) Angus Campbell, AO was Chief of the Australian Defence Force from 2018 until 2024. Prior to that he served as Chief of Army (2015-2018).
A career military officer, he previously held the positions of Commander Joint Inter-Agency Taskforce, Operation Sovereign Borders (2013 – 2015) in the Department of Immigration, responsible for stopping maritime people smuggling to Australia, and Head of the Office of National Security and then Deputy National Security Adviser in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (2005-2010).
He served operationally in the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (2000-2001) and as commander of Australian forces in the Middle East Area of Operations (2011).
He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of New South Wales (1985), a Master of Philosophy in International Relations from Cambridge University (1993) and is a graduate of the Australian Army Command and Staff College (1996).
