Australia welcomes Côte d’Ivoire’s abolition of the death penalty for all crimes and ratification of the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights since its last review.

Australia welcomes the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s enactment of laws recognising the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, extending to its territorial waters.

We share the Expert Mechanism’s concerns about the increase in reprisals against Indigenous human rights defenders and echo its call on States to ensure due protection for Indigenous leaders, including Indigenous women, and their communities from such reprisals.

Russia's unrelenting attacks with explosive weapons in populated areas have not only led to numerous civilian deaths and injuries, including of women and children. They have also seriously damaged critical infrastructure, such as the Okhmatdyt children's hospital, and the country’s energy infrastructure. 

We welcome the Secretary-General’s report and express grave concern at increasing instances of intimidation and reprisal against those cooperating with the UN. As member states, it is our responsibility to uphold human rights, and to foster a safe, inclusive and enabling environment for all to engage.
