We are deeply concerned by your findings that journalists are increasingly targets of transnational repression, including violence and intimidation, pervasive surveillance, and cyberattacks.

The participation of women is imperative in achieving peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights for all.

The challenges posed by climate change and food and health insecurity continue to have a detrimental impact on the capacity of individuals around the world to enjoy their human rights.

Alarmingly egregious systemic discrimination against women and girls continues in Afghanistan.

Australia retains concerns about the nature of this Commission of Inquiry and its mandate. However, Australia is gravely concerned by the findings of the Commission in its most recent report.

We remain gravely concerned by the ongoing institutionalized discrimination, segregation, human rights violations and abuses perpetrated against women and girls in Afghanistan. 

We share the grave concerns expressed in recent statements from the High Commissioner, IIMM and Special Rapporteur that detail targeted attacks against civilians, including Rohingya, which has led people to flee to the Bangladesh border and hampered humanitarian access.

We commend the Commission of Inquiry’s continued work in shining light on large-scale, systematic, and arbitrary or unjust detentions and related violations and abuses. This is crucial for ensuring accountability.

We are firmly committed to upholding and promoting the freedoms of peaceful assembly and association, including for athletes who use their platforms to advocate for human rights.

We stand together today to address the urgent and growing threat of transnational repression.  When states reach beyond their borders to silence or coerce dissidents, journalists, human rights defenders, and others, national sovereignty, democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms are undermined.
