Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Penny Wong will travel to Cook Islands, Niue and French Polynesia, to further strengthen Australia’s deep ties with our Pacific partners, and demonstrate the Government’s commitment to the Pacific as a whole.

‘Oa Tumanava means enduring friendship in the Cook Islands Māori language – friendship in peace times and friendship in times of adversity.

Some of the smallest island states in the Pacific are on course to lift the value of their exports, through significant changes to their customs procedures.

On 1 January 2020, Cook Islands graduated from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's List of Official Development Assistance Recipients.

Australia’s High Commission in Cook Islands was established on 17 December 2019 and is a significant milestone in our growing relationship with Cook Islands. The High Commission’s establishment and signing of the Cooks Islands-Australia ‘Oa Tumanava partnership in 2022, has enhanced our co-operation in tourism, trade, investment and security and people-to people links.
