Australia now
Two of Australia's most respected classical guitarists, the Grigoryan Brothers, performed in the Australia now 2016 program in Brazil. With five performances in three cities, the Grigoryan Brothers played in settings as diverse as Brazil itself–a concert hall in Campinas, a jazz club in Rio, two outdoor performances in Sao Paulo, and an intimate outdoor performance at the Australian Embassy in the capital Brasilia.
The classical guitar duo also took the opportunity to teach a masterclass at the Sao Paulo State Music School.
Music is an important part of Brazilian culture and an engaging way to connect with people. Audiences were thrilled when the brothers incorporated a samba beat into one of their songs.
The performances showcased the best of Australian talent, highlighting the diversity of Australia's creative and performance industries in the lead up to the Olympic Games in Rio di Janeiro.
"We had such an incredible time in the lead up to the Rio Olympic Games and were proud to be part of the diverse 'Australia now' team presenting Australian music in Brazil. For us, it was particularly special performing to Brazilian audiences who are highly informed as music is such an important part of their culture, with the guitar a major contributor to its musical landscape."
