Professor Hala Zreiqat AM

Professor Zreiqat is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Sydney.

In 2006, she founded the Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials Research Unit at the University of Sydney, pioneering the invention of new biomaterials and biomedical devices. She is well known for her work in developing the younger generation of upcoming Australian researchers.

She has received numerous accolades for her work. As a Senior Research Fellow of the NHMRC, she was the first person in NSW to receive a prestigious Radcliffe Fellowship from Harvard University. Professor Zreiqat was awarded the Order of Australia in 2019 and the King Abdullah II Order of Distinction of the Second Class - the highest civilian honour bestowed by the King of Jordan in 2018. Described as a trailblazer in championing opportunities for women, Professor Zreiqat was the first female president of the Australian and New Zealand Orthopaedic Research Society. She was named NSW Premier’s Woman of the Year in 2018 by Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Women, Tanya Davies, for her extraordinary contribution to regenerative medicine and orthopaedic research in NSW and her commitment to improving opportunities for women around the world.

Professor Zreiqat grew up, studied and worked in Jordan before moving to Sydney.
