The Foreign Correspondent Study Tour

Project summary

Grantee: University of Technology Sydney and Swinburne University of Technology
Priority Area: Education
Flagship Program: Media Internships
Country: Jordan

The 2016 Foreign Correspondent study tour is a joint program between UTS and Swinburne universities, where eight students from both institutes and cities will work together on producing journalism in the Arab world as part of their university learning.

This will be the second year this project's run and it is designed to offer students the opportunity to file news stories on the ground with real deadlines in order to emulate the 'foreign correspondent' experience, which can only be achieved by exposing students to an international study experience outside the classroom. This study tour prepares students for future journalistic experiences within an international context by providing them with the tools to do journalism within another culture.

The Middle East, and Jordan in particular, is a major media hub for journalists and foreign correspondents, thus making it a suitable and relevant destination. The program includes scholarly interaction with local host universities, industry visits, journalism training seminars and meetings with experts in the field.

Council for Australian-Arab Relations grant offer: 35,200.00 GST Inclusive

Total project value: $56,600.00
