Science, Religion and Art in Islam

Project summary

Priority area: Culture and Arts
Country location: Australia
Grantee: The University of Adelaide

Arab-Islamic civilisation has developed unique perspectives on the relationship between art, religion, and science, which are not widely known in the West. Over four days in July 2016, the Centre for Asian and Middle Eastern Architecture organised, in collaboration with the Art Gallery of South Australia and Charles Sturt University, three free public events to promote the Arab-Islamic cultural and intellectual heritage to the wider Australian community. The Artistic Journeys Workshop staged 6 renowned contemporary artists and curators to engage in dialogues about the significance and challenges of their creative works. The events brought together academics, artists, and researchers from the Arab world and Australia to discuss the confluence of art, religion, and science. They will stimulate cultural and intellectual exchange, build networks, and generate new ideas.
