Teaching Excellence in South Korea and Australia: A Comparison

Project summary

Sector: Education
Country location: Republic of Korea
Grantee: Charles Darwin University

Project Description

The project will investigate the qualities of excellent university teaching, comparing the South Korean and Australian practices. Specifically, it will consider pre-service teacher education. In the OECD PISA tests (Program for International Student Assessment) both countries rank relatively highly, but due to cultural differences there is variation. The data will be gathered from a series of research conversations with educators in the university and school system to discover what is considered "excellent" and what society values in education. There will be a focus on STEAM education and how to promote and collaborate in pursuing excellence in these subject areas. Data will also be collected from surveys sent to lecturers in the South Korea. Findings will help to further understand what is valued most, how learning and teaching can be improved in both countries, and to foster ongoing research and relationships between educational institutions.
