Fifth RCEP Leaders’ Summit, 27 October 2025

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese represented Australia at the Fifth RCEP Leaders’ Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 27 October in the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit.

At the first Summit since RCEP’s entry into force, leaders reaffirmed their commitment to World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and principles as the foundations of an open, rules-based trading system, noting its importance for regional economic stability and resilience. They called for ambitious WTO reform to ensure it delivered for all members.

Leaders instructed Ministers and officials to progress the full implementation of RCEP, advance the accession process, and prepare for the 2027 General Review of RCEP to ensure a level playing field and promote strong and resilient growth.
