Australia advances responsible action in space

Category
International relations

Australia has joined the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Germany and the Republic of Korea in committing to not conduct destructive, direct-ascent anti-satellite missile testing.

These tests undermine peace and security and threaten the long-term sustainability of the outer space environment that all economies rely.

Joining with other likeminded states reinforces that responsible behaviours can help prevent an arms race in outer space. Australia calls on all nations to make the same commitment.

We also actively participated in the Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) on reducing space threats through norms, rules and principles of responsible behaviours.
