Media release from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is seeking submissions from the public on how to best capture the values and aspirations of the people of the Commonwealth for its new charter.

The submissions will help with the drafting of a new Commonwealth Charter that will enshrine the Commonwealth's 'spirit,' by recognising the common values and aspirations of people in its member countries.

The draft charter will be considered by Commonwealth member nations in 2012.

Submissions will be accepted until close of business Friday 17 February 2012.
