Media release from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Australia and Singapore will commence the second round of formal negotiations
for an Australia-Singapore Free Trade Agreement in Canberra on 9 April.�

The Australian delegation is led by Mr
Donald Kenyon of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.� The Singapore delegation is led by Mr Vanu
Gopala Menon from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

These negotiations follow the decision on
15 November 2000 by the two Prime Ministers that Australia and Singapore would
negotiate a bilateral free trade agreement.� The first round of negotiations were held in Singapore in February this
year, during which time both sides reaffirmed their commitment to conclude a
mutually beneficial, comprehensive and substantive agreement before the end of
the year.
