Australia and the United States have signed an agreement
to facilitate the export of an innovative technology
developed by an Australian company, Silex Systems Limited.
The technology enables the separation of isotopes of uranium
by laser excitation.

The Agreement establishes the procedures through which
Silex and its US partner, the United States Enrichment
Corporation will conduct research, development and
commercial utilization of Silex technology. Strict
safeguards, verification and physical protection measures
are stipulated which will ensure that this technology is
used exclusively for peaceful purposes.

The Agreement, which was signed in Washington, will be
tabled in Federal Parliament early next year.
