The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will host the second
meeting of the Australia - Republic of Korea Joint Economic Committee (JEC)
on 14 and 15 June in Canberra. This meeting will bring together senior
officials from ministries, departments and agencies in both countries
involved in the economic relationship and is intended to provide a
strategic overview of the bilateral trade and investment relationship
and its future development.

The Korean delegation will be led by Mr Sun Joun-Yung, Deputy
Minister for Economic Affairs in the ROK Foreign Ministry, and the
Australian delegation will be led by Mr Peter Grey, Deputy Secretary in
the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. While in Australia Mr Sun
will also meet separately with the Minister for Trade, Senator McMullan.

Discussions will focus on developments in the multilateral trading
system, regional cooperation and Korea's proposed entry to the
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as well as
a range of bilateral issues.

The Australian delegation will raise concerns about factors
inhibiting access to the Korean market for a range of agricultural
products and processed foods. Both sides will discuss opportunities for
expanding science and industrial technology cooperation, natural
resources cooperation both in minerals and energy as well as fisheries
sectors, investment, the environment and tourism.
