Media Release

Following the departure of Bruce Davis from the position of Director-General of AusAID on 3 July, I have decided to appoint Peter Baxter as the acting Director-General from 4 July 2009.

Mr Baxter is a senior and experienced officer of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Most recently he was First Assistant Secretary of the Consular, Public Diplomacy and Parliamentary Affairs Division, and prior to that First Assistant Secretary of the North Asia Division.

The Director-General position will be advertised in due course.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank Bruce Davis for his leadership of AusAID since 1999. Bruce has brought great professionalism, commitment and expertise to his responsibilities as Director-General. His contribution to policy development and implementation over a long period has been vitally important, intensely practical and deeply appreciated.
