Pacific Islands Forum Foreign Ministers Meetings
Australia hosted the inaugural Pacific Islands Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting (FFMM) in Sydney, July 2015 to discuss disaster management in the region and strengthening Forum members' international engagement. Ministers considered ways to strengthen responses to national hazards, drawing on lessons from experiences of Cyclones Pam and Winston and Typhoon Maysak.
At the 46th Pacific Islands Forum in Papua New Guinea in September 2015, Leaders agreed that Forum Foreign Ministers meet annually to assist and inform Leaders of relevant regional and international issues facing the region.
The annual Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting (FFMM) was established in 2016 to provide a platform in the Forum's architecture for discussion and strategising on regional and international issues facing the Pacific region. At their first meeting in Suva in August 2016, Forum Foreign Ministers' committed to ensuring whole-of-government approaches to pursuing Pacific regionalism, and strengthened coordination of Pacific Islands Forum diplomacy, internationally.
