Transcript of remarks by H.E. Ambassador Gary Quinlan, Australian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, following a meeting of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council with the Secretary-General
E & OE
All I can say at the moment is the Secretary-General has met with all ten non-permanent members of the Council this morning, to give us an update on his efforts in respect of the investigation, and to indicate he remains in close contact with world leaders and will continue to do that at the G20. He leaves for the G20 this afternoon.
I met with him late Friday afternoon as incoming President of the Council, as did the outgoing President, Argentina, and we've remained in contact over the weekend. I'll be meeting with all members of the Council today individually to discuss the September programme of work, and obviously Syria will be a subject of discussion in those consultations. It would be premature for me to speculate on the substance of those discussions with members of the Council, but this is an absolute top priority obviously for all of us.
I'll be giving you a press conference, of course, tomorrow after the Council has had discussions about the programme of work Wednesday morning New York time, and we'll go further from that.
At that moment I really can't say any more than that till I've had discussions
with more members of the Council – so thank-you.
