On 20 August 2024, the-then Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon Tim Watts announced the launch of the inaugural Australia-India Strategic and Technology Policy Initiative (SATPI) grant round. SATPI encourages collaboration between Australian and Indian research organisations. It promotes greater understanding of strategic and technology policy matters, so that Australia and India may better work together on shared opportunities.
SATPI complements the Australian Government’s increased engagement with India, including on strategic and technology policy matters.

Asia Society Australia to deliver the flagship activity – the convening of an annual 1.5 Track Strategic Dialogue between Australia and India, announced on 5 November by the Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon Penny Wong.
The Australian National University to establish and deliver an Australia-India Biotechnology Policy Research Hub and Dialogues.
The University of Western Australia to research and enhance Australia-India Underwater Domain Awareness Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific alongside India’s Council for Strategic and Defense Research.
