Australia India Council Annual Report 1999–2000

Education

The objectives of the Council’s education program are to raise the level of knowledge of India, and of Australia’s relations with India, at the primary and secondary levels in Australian schools, and similarly to raise awareness of Australia in Indian schools.

With these objectives in mind, the Council provided funding to the Asia Education Foundation for the 1999–2000 Australia–India teacher exchange program, part of a series of such programs designed to give Australian teachers and educational administrators a working familiarity with India.

As well as a study tour to India in April 2000 by twelve Australian teachers, the program included a study tour to Australia in May–June 2000 by twelve Indian primary and secondary teachers. The teacher exchanges built on, and promoted the use of, curriculum materials and other initiatives developed by the Asia Education Foundation with funding from the AIC.
